    BOGO BABY IS HERE

    Congratulations!

    How long you thinkin?

All mares have plugs on their teats. It’s how the udder stays clean and uninfected. To me it sounds like one of these plugs as opposed to wax caused by an overfilled udder leaking. Without seeing a pic though it is hard to know.

    HPR 2024

Girls are trudging along here. Getting bigger and bigger. Can feel those babies kicking which is pretty awesome after all that Rythem went through and not even knowing Belle was in foal till a short while ago! Rythem is now 242 and Belle is 267 so about a month from her going under camera...

    My pregnant mare

That udder should get a lot larger. Is she a maiden?

    My pregnant mare

It’s impossible to tell from pictures unfortunately. With a bit more information it may help….How far along is she? When was she with the stallion if you don’t know number of days. When did she start an udder? Can you take more pictures of her udder. Preferably one like this? Can you also get a...

    HPR 2024

when they go on their back like that it is often a sign of dystocia. Not always but frequently. With the fact she did have a minor dystocia, it would make sense. Trying to reposition the baby.

There is no sound. It’s a recording off of a soundless barn camera.

    HPR 2024

Thought y’all might like this. Recording of Bess foaling. It was a bit spooky her rolling and laying on her back. That’s always a concerning sign and after I gave her a bit I decided to make sure the foal was positioned right. He had one leg caught behind his head. Once I got that corrected, he...

Can you tell if a mare is delaying labor?

I’ve had many many mares look completely relaxed a month before they foal. This is a maiden on day 312 and she foaled day 345. She would fluctuate from this to normal. That is very normal.

Little guy all dry and a couple days old. Still figuring out those legs. I’ve got his registered name figured out I think. Still working on a barn name. May not know roan status until he sheds, but he’s definitely buckskin.

Buckskin(?) pinto colt born at 8:30 on 3/1/24. Will get better pics in the morning. He was a bit slow to nurse but I think he’s got the hang of it now. Bess is doing great.

    Stall Cameras?

Is hard wiring an option? I ran coax cable from my stalls to my house so then I don’t have to worry about WiFi

    HPR 2024

One of these days her ph will drop and she will foal. Glad she didn’t last night. Went from 80s to 30s overnight.

    HPR 2024

Cooking with bacon grease now! PH is still back-and-forth. But we all know that can change in the blink of an eye. Her behavior was all over the place last night, so I’m not shocked about her progress this morning. I tried to upload a video of her belly watching, but it is not working with me...

    HPR 2024

Ph has started to drop. She held her udder great yesterday despite turnout. Ph is now 7.5. We will see if she actually gets serious now.

    HPR 2024

Udder starting to get serious. She’s been butt rubbing more and has some crusted blood around girly parts. Milk is now very hard to get and cloudy white but still testing high. Her mood swings are something else, from lovey dovey to angry, uncomfortable mare-tude at the drop of a hat.

    Discharge?

For sure! Pasture breeding dates can be frustrating. Best to be ready early then too late. So I am with you.
