Barn & Bed Down Photos! Where do your horses live?

Moved to Westcliffe, CO, and built the barn of our dreams. Two minis, a guardian donkey, and two saddle horses (gaited). Life is generous! And driving a mini led to larger things... Hmmm. Embedding URLs of images does not appear to work. :(

    Preparing for a Parade

If you are stopped for a long time in the parade, you can practice pivots.

Fat minis and contradictory farrier advice

If I free fed our minis, the younger one would be a piglet for sure. Even the stallion would be heavy. Luke the 2 year old gets fat on air. Just sayin'. Different story with our TWH. My farrier is very good at assessment of the entire horse, and I put a lot of 'weight' on her opinion. My...

    Leaving Halters On.....No!

Mine have trained me to have apple treats intermittently - and unpredictably. It's the most addictive behavior pattern... intermittent reward. Two million Las Vegas visitors can't be wrong... ;-) So you might say they are addicted to letting me catch them...

What Is The Future For The Miniature Horse?

Sorry, been quite busy and missed your question. We are essentially co-owners of the dogs for life. Which means, we take responsibility for them and they cannot be resold nor rehomed nor taken to a shelter without permission (which of course is not granted - we will rehome them or care for...

    Easy boots

Well, the quality is about what you would expect for the price. Definitely needs some 'enhancing'. I must say they are better than I feared, but a zipper came apart on one when I first zipped it up... the zipper head kept going and popped the metal ends right off, leaving me holding the zipper...

New to driving - Need a HOW TO video for harnessing and hooking to the cart

15 minutes with the guy who sold me the cart did more good than a few hours of videos. The videos *did* soften the cranial ground a bit for the plow of experience. See if you cannot find a local trainer or driver to show you the beginning ropes.

    **Flys**

We are trying garlic this year (in moderation). We will see. You might try moving to 8,000 ft. elevation. Fewer flies. Not nonexistent but definitely fewer. I know, I know, funny guy. Grateful one too.

What Is The Future For The Miniature Horse?

Interesting thread... Coming from the purebred show dog world, and growing up on a TB breeding operation in KY, it all sounds very familiar. I know in the dog world we do sell every puppy we bring into the world, from CHAMPIONS / GRAND CHAMPIONS who are conformationally correct. We do...

    How to start

Oh, and I should hasten to add, I put molasses on the bit. Most of the "Wow, what the heck is THIS?!" was followed immediately by mmmmmmmmm yum mmmmm lick lick lick. He was quite happy to see me next time. I just led him around a bit and let him get used to things. Gently and slowly. One of...

    How to start

I actually started with the bridle and short reigns. After some initial "Wow, what the heck is THIS?!" reaction, he settled right into it. I did ground driving work for about 7 months, adding harness components, until I even had a cart. I ground drove him in public situations, around the lake...

    Easy boots

I've not... I might have to use the donkey versions since my guy measures 2.5" wide by 3" long. However... I did order these strictly for inside use to enhance traction. I wouldn't use them for driving...

    Therapy horse vests?

From what I've read at least - Actually it's kinda loose from a regulatory perspective. That has its good points and bad points. The vest isn't even required. They have started to clamp down on service animals (tighter definition than therapy animals) to limit it to dogs and (thankfully) mini...

    Therapy horse vests?

I would have thought these would be a Google search away... but no! Anyone have a source for a therapy horse vest (especially therapy horse in training)? Or is this something I will have to have made special?

Adjusting harness and cart with mini weight change

Pix? I'll wade in where angels fear... especially since I am green... I understand the breeching should have two fingers of slack at his rump, hills or no. How much are you running?

What is a good cart for the price?

A note about shafts not made correctly... I've done a lot of fabricating and whatnot in the 4x4 world, and if you can find a custom 4x4 shop or hot rod shop that will work with you, and have an example of an incorrectly made shaft and know what you want corrected, they can likely source the...

    Chomping the bit

I tried a Mullen and Legend REALLY started chomping. Went back to the snaffle and he definitely liked it better. Since then he has quieted down quite nicely. I try to keep a very light touch on the reins which helps. In other words... depends on the horse and the mouth.

    Head Collars

Hey, just because you have a brilliant idea only to discover someone else thought of it too, doesn't make it less brilliant! I bet the first person to invent the wheel had their heart sink one day when they crested a hill only to find someone they'd never met with a wheelbarrow headed the other...

    Aerocrown cart

Hyperbike on order. One dirtbike sold to partially fund it. Good trade by any calculation... Should make a good complement to the Aerocrown.
