If she ever decides to shed out I will post those too... could not have done it without the aunties!!! Now chomping at the bit to have the resources to rescue another mare in foal!
This is SO much more fun than human kids! LOL! kinda like grandbabies I assume. You spoil them rotten and then...
Posting for the aunties who helped me welcome my pride and joy into the world almost a year ago (April 22, 2013). Momma has really blossomed being able to keep this filly. The filly is doing great! We weaned this fall, worked on breaking to halter and leading and a few other things before...
I have been wondering about this as well. I have a mother daughter pair (Topaz is officially weaned) and the way our barn is set up there is one 13X10.5 stall and one tiny stall. Right now momma is in the smaller stall because Topaz likes to climb cattle panel when she gets bored so mom is stuck...
Topaz is officially six months old now! She is weaned, waiting on mom to finish drying up.
Any tips for the farrier? Despite my playing with her feet from day one, letting her watch mom get trimmed, playing with the snips and file, playing with the hoof pick... She STILL will not let me pick...
No equine buddy but an unexpected friend has come to her side. Little solstice lost her momma earlier than she should have and understands weaning well. She spent the night with Topaz for her first night in her own "big girl stall". She has been eating dinner away from momma for longer and...
We're you able to get a vet out to check on mom? I am new/inexperienced but a little drink sounds better than none. Can (aunties check me on this one) you milk mom and freeze some of the colostrum or bottle feed the baby?
Thanks. I love that little one SO much! I was so scared to take on a pregnant mare, to try and raise and train a foal. You aunties have been a huge help. Little Topaz has also given me so much over the past several months. This has been and continues to be an awesome, life changing journey!
Grandam was BAD!!
On the up side, having never seen anything like this before and not having anything attached to her body since the blankie a two days old Ms. Topaz could care less!! Big floppy green things strapped to her back and the only reaction I got was "Grandam, my color is hot pink not...
Prince seems to be adjusting well to the life of a spoiled horse. We have done very limited riding as we don't have a good space yet that won't stress the injury or surrounding joints. He likes to watch the neighbors TV in their big sun room. He LOVES being the only gelding with a herd of mares...
Ok, we attempted confirmation pics... It didn't go so well but I have pics! More cuteness to come when I find the card reader for my iPad. Ok, aparently you really do have to do tricks and stand on your head to see them. They are right side up on my computer... When my beloved geek gets around...
She is doing so well with all I ask of her. Weaning is a bit slow but she is solo and we have to build another stall seeing as Grandam couldn't say no to a big in need.
