Football player on news

What do you all think of the football player who punched his girlfriend out on a casino elevator? Apparently she likes being used for a punching bag as she is standing by her man, Even after he spat on her several times. She's defending him and is angry because he lost his job. Like others in that position have done, she is almost saying that she asked for it. So sad for her and their children. He did it once, he'll do it again.

Sad isn't it? Women like her have very low self confidence. She feels that she loves him and most probably does, but it is a one way street. He may love her but you are right once a wife beater, always a wife beater. I think she will get fed up eventually and leave him, hopefully before he kills her. I didn't know they had children.

They had been together for years and always had a relationship like was portrayed in the elevator video. It's very disturbing, what I found most disturbing was how he treated her after she was knocked out, dragging her around like a rag doll, not even checking if she was alive...one punch CAN and has killed people. They both definitely have issues and of course she is upset that TMZ "invaded" her life and aired the video. When you put things in the public, like a casino where there are cameras everywhere, and you are a famous person you can never complain about invasion of privacy, that's why you make the millions. I think the NFL did the right thing in banning him for life (although I don't think it will stick). I wish they had done the same with Michael Vick, the one who was caught fighting and killing pit bulls a few years ago. What's to come now is the issue that the commissioner had seen the video a couple months ago and chose to ignore it until TMZ aired it and millions saw it. I think they will call for his resignation. But we shall see.

Sonya, We may not often see eye to eye, but I agree with you 100% on both this case and Michael Vick.

The NFL has all but condoned such behavior, but this is hardly news. They profit from brutish behavior and rhoid rage. At least the Rice and Vick cases show that the public can speak out and be heard -- they still don't get it, but they certainly understand loss of revenue.

Whether it be sports, business, art, music or whatever, I refuse to give my money to thugs. Fellow musicians often speak glowingly of the late drummer and big band leader, Buddy Rich, but while his music was incredible, he was a monster and I won't even listen to his recordings.

In this case, the old cliché holds true: put your money where your mouth is.

There are so many professional athletes especially football players that are over paid and under educated and act like thugs.I think that if any professional athlete is convicted of a serious crime he should be BANNED FOR LIFE for any sport.These people are idolized by our young people and are TERRIBLE examples of how to behave.No wonder there is such violence in our society and lack of respect for anyone in authority.Look at the behavior towards officials and their behavior towards the opponents during the game.IT IS JUST A GAME.I don't think any changes will happen.It is all about the money and greed. I REFUSE to watch professional football.I LOVED watching the Little League World Series and saw the great examples of good sportmanship on the field.Those kids were nice to each other even when they lost.

Have you heard the latest? Adrian Peterson has now been indicted on child abuse charges. I saw the pictures of what he did to his 4 year old son, so sad. He claimed he was disciplining him. He beat him with a switch from a tree. Now I too have been hit with a switch (and I deserved it) but never to the point of cuts/bruises and definitely not at the age of 4. The NFL is in a world of hurt, the respect they did have is pretty much down the tubes.

I'm a football fan, and really believe that these athletes from high school on, are treated special. They get to college and treated to perks and are waited on hand and foot. Those that get to the pros continue to think they are above the law and are owed a living. Look how the sportscasters drool over Johnny Football, he hasn't played a game and didn't he have a scandal in college? The older players that have retired don't like how the current ones act and drive the sport of football down into the sewer. Baseball is the same, so many broke records just to be charged with drug use.

I don't think we can blame violence in our society on sports' figures, bevann.

He really cold-cocked her and drug her around like a piece of garbage. I think she's "sticking" with her man because of the money. Unfortunately, anyone dumb enough to do that sort of thing 'on camera' is off the gravy train. Too bad--I guess.

I agree I wouldn't blame athletes as the root of evil and violence in today's youth, nor would I blame movies, tv, music, or video games. I believe what's lacking in our youth is God and family values, JMHO. Although the NFL players certainly haven't been good role models lately. I really believe parents should be the role models for their children.

I am not blaming athletes-it's just that they are often in the public eye and their bad behavior is very public.I too think that it is a breakdown of the family unit and lack of good values in the family.Many family units today are missing a good male role model for boys and young men.Often in the family where there are 2 parents there is so little time spent with children due to parents working long hours to have all the things believed to be necessary for the children.We seem to be a nation of overindulgence in many cases.I also know there are parents who have to work long hours just to provide the necessities.Many grandparents are raising kids and I can speak as a grandparent that is no easy task especially with lack of respect for older people.Not sure what the answer is just know that it is a problem

I totally agree with everyone about the lack of family values. I'm lucky with both my girls. The oldest and her hubby are very active with all three kids. The boys play lacrosse and other sports, excellent students and know they are loved. Their little girl is the apple of their eyes and these kids are polite and respectful. My other daughter is divorced and very active in her young son's life. She and her ex are on the same page in respect to the son they made together. All my grandkids are happy and well adjusted. The only area I feel is lacking is that non are involved with any church.

We have a court case going on at the moment. The incident happened at Last years Melbourne Cup Racing Carnival.

A Guy and Girl around there mid 30's were strapping horses and had led them onto the track for their race. As they preceded to walk thru the mounting yard the guy walked up to her and king hit her, knocking her to the ground.

Since when has it been ok for a Man (if you could call him that) to hit a woman ?? Must have missed that memo.............

Bevvan, I could not agree with you more. If the sports starts of today got praise for the sports they played instead of media attention for what dirty secret, lady, drug, smashed car or five minute marriage they plan on being part of they might not act like such ..........................

Celebrities get too much attention and they are the worst kinds of role models we need for kids in todays society.

And as for that poor abused child, the unfortunate people that cannot have their own children should of been blessed with this one.

Hopefully someone will give this .......................... a friendly reminder what he did to his son one day.

Although I am a godless heathen liberal and obviously lacking all morals and family values, I believe in turning the other cheek. Even if she was hitting him, he should not have lowered himself to her level, but instead he should have recognized that his physical size and strength could do grievous harm and responded in a nonviolent manner. No matter how physically endowed, anyone who abuses those who cannot defend themselves is very small indeed.

I'm a godless, heathen conservative... with one or two morals, and only a couple family values.

Sometimes people get caught up in things--most likely when they're in Las Vegas, and drinking or whatever. And sometimes women instigate. I've known women who just won't back down from their idea of drama.

BUT-- he shouldn't have smacked her so hard that he had to drag her out of the elevator unconscious; or maybe she just passed out? We'll never know.

I did see that they were fighting prior to the elevator, both of them pushing, shoving each other., etc. it sounds like this was a constant in their relationship, they both should of been charged with domestic violence. It is not just men who hit, women do it too. They both have serious issues. And they can't complain when they put it out there in a public place, especially when one is "famous"....a drawback of being rich and famous is that you lose your privacy even more so than the average person. It's the price they pay and they can't complain about it.

With the Adrian Peterson case, there is much talk about how as a parent he should be able to discipline his child (which I agree with, a spanking can do wonders). I do believe switching a 4 year old to the point of numerous cuts and bruises is going way overboard.

I agree sometimes a spanking can do wonders. I was smacked a couple of times as a child. It certainly taught me to respect my parents.
